Biography
In the holy city of
Najef, and on a hot summer day of 1953, Said first opened his
eyes to this unpredictable world. In this city’s harsh living
conditions, Said grew up, worked hard and managed to finish his High
School education. With hope to fulfill his dreams, he continued his
education in
Baghdad’s Institute of Arts.
After graduating in
1974, he decided to continue to study acting in the University of
Baghdad. Then, he was put in prison for inheriting his last name
from a generation that hated Saddim Hussein and his regime
government (BAITH PARTY).
When coming out from
prison, he was forced to participate in the first Gulf War that
lasted eight years between Iraq and Iran from 1979-1988. Later he
was one of the thousands that participated in the Iraqi Revolution
against Saddim Hussein in 1991.
Said ran away from
Saddim’s Government to Saudi –Arabia and stayed there for about two
years.
In 1993, he arrived to
America as a political refugee. He has been living in
Michigan, Detroit
for about ten years. He organized the Iraq-American Organization of
Culture and Arts. He started writing poetry in 2004. Later most of
his poems were published on more than fifty Arabic newsletters and
websites. He has realized that writing poetry was one of his hidden
talents and continued with it.
